Željko Suhadolnik, an excellent teacher and an even better friend, announced the opportunity for wine-filled gatherings ahead of the official end of summer so beautifully that we are publishing his text in full

From September 11th to 27th, between 5 PM and midnight, things promise to be particularly lively at Zagreb’s Kvaternik Square. The organizer, Vinart, is announcing VinKvart (Wine District), an event featuring culinary and wine delights. Just imagine: the food and drink lineup even mentions the world-renowned Petrus, though here, it appears alongside an offering of fresh fish!

Suzy Quatro or Suzi Kvarto

The organizer also highlights Ivana Bekavac for her homemade flatbreads. While no specific details were provided regarding the musical backdrop, given that this is a festive gathering in a specific neighborhood (kvart), a fitting choice might be someone like Suzy Quatro (a play on Kvartić, meaning little district) or Suzi Kvarto (meaning district)...

Here is the list of this year’s wine vendors by location: the Safe Bet wine kiosk brings together prominent names from the Croatian wine scene: Benvenuti, Fakin, Štampar, Ego-vina, Kast, Kutjevo, Royal Hill, Cattunar, Šember, Gracin, and Škegro.

Wines for Socializing for the Vault

The promise, to quote, is that you will find reliable, easy-drinking labels here that are perfect for sharing with friends. For those seeking something rarer, the Wine Vault curated by Saša Špiranec offers special labels: Benvenuti Santa Elisabetta, Fakin Malvazija La Prima, Carsus Trnjak from the Herzegovinian winery Škegro, and Korta Katarina Zinfandel, alongside Grgić’s Pošip and Plavac Mali, and Kast’s Graševina Omnia.

Bubble House takes over the bubbly side of the festival. On tap will be Štampar's Urban White and Urban Rosé, as well as Dobra Berba Piena Brut, Moët & Chandon Brut, Villa Sandi Prosecco Millesimato, Royal Hill Extra Dry Selection, Cattunar Senator Malvazija 2025, and, it has been said, a few more surprises.

From other countries, even continent

As part of the Wines of the World, the company Roto Dinamic promises a selection from the offer of famous world wine brands such as Kaiken, Montes (excellent!), Domäne Wachau (excellent), and Astoria, Dourthe and Château La Garricque.

And now, a bit more about the aforementioned Petrus, not the world-famous French one, but the local version, featuring a seafood menu! The organizers note that this Petrus is making a comeback with an Ofyr grill.

Hungry, thirsty and love-struck

Fresh fish, shellfish, and tuna will be prepared over an open fire... it all sounds delicious. Ivana Bekavac is at the helm of the Gladan. Žedan. A - ljubavi željan? (Hungry. Thirsty. And... Longing for Love?) stall, where freshly baked flatbreads, šalša (tomato sauce), prosciutto, tiramisu and various drinks await you. Jellyfish in Space is bringing its most popular Asian dishes, while Mrav (Ant) will, imagine that, fill the air with the aroma of burgers and fries.

Cheese producer Président is preparing platters that pair perfectly with the wine selection. For those with a sweet tooth, Crofna offers gourmet doughnuts created in collaboration with the Aura Distillery.

No one will be thirsty

Additionally, the Rossi stand features premium spritzes, while Cocktails by Vinart serves up classic cocktails. For those who prefer beer to wine, or anyone who wants a glass or two of beer after enjoying the nectar of Bacchu, Roto Dinamic has curated a rich selection of domestic and international beer brands, ensuring no one goes thirsty...

DJs play every weekend, keeping the rhythm going until closing time. Aftertaste is once again turning Kvatrić sqare into the kind of place where you end up staying longer after work than you originally planned.

Two hospitals are nearby

And since the summer atmosphere is still in full swing, well, as the saying goes, Why stay home in the heat and grime? It’s worth keeping in mind, just in case: Hospital Zajčeva is close by, and Hospital Rebro isn't far either. Plus, around midnight, the streets are free of that dreadful, sluggish traffic we’re all too familiar with during the heat of the day...
