Joining them in slicing the prosciutto were Branka Juričev-Martinčev, Member of Parliament and representative of the Speaker of Parliament; Zdravko Tušek, State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and representative of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković; Ante-Janko Bobetko, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of HAMAG-BICRO; and Joso Smolić, Vice President of the Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts. Thus, the prosciutto-slicing competition between the two county prefects saw a continuation.
The point isn't about who slices a longer, thinner, or thicker piece, but rather the joint promotion of our indigenous products: Istrian and Drniš prosciutto. I have tasted it many times and I can tell the people of Drniš that they have a superb product, a real contender.
Istrian, Drniš, Krk and Dalmatian
As someone with strong local pride who grew up with Istrian prosciutto, I have to say it suits my taste best. However, the other three protected Croatian prosciuttos, Drniš, Krk, and Dalmatian, are also very tasty, high-quality products, said Miletić.
Host Paško Rakić did not wish to dwell on the victory, offering a diplomatic response instead: I will simply say that in competitions like this, participation is what matters. All our Croatian products are top-quality—including the *pršut*—though, naturally, out of local pride, we will always claim that the Drniš variety is the best.
Branding Croatian Products
After all, every region has its own specialties, but the most important thing is that we stand together in this endeavor and promote the products made by the Croatian people. That is the goal of this event.
In Drniš, pršut (cured ham) is not viewed merely as a product. It is an integral part of local tradition, customs, family life and regional identity. Locals maintain that every household should have it.
Around thirty exhibitors
This was precisely what was showcased to visitors at the two-day International Pršut Festival, held at the Antun Mihanović Sports Hall, which brought together around thirty exhibitors from Istria and Dalmatia to Parma, Italy, a city synonymous with top-quality of prosciutto.
Behind every high-quality pršut stands a person. There are families, years of experience, investments, patience, and the determination to persevere even when circumstances are challenging. That is precisely why I wish to extend special thanks to our producers, who uphold quality standards and, through their daily work, reaffirm the value of the Drniš pršut name.
