Everything indicated a more than good harvest, despite the severe drought. Friday was the day we were supposed to start, we had already gathered the team, and then the fire destroyed everything, Marko Mimica from Omiš told Nova TV. Planting new vineyards is a two-year process. On this karst, rocky and sparse land, it will take another five years until the first harvest, added Mimica, thanking his fellow winemakers who are sending him financial and emotional support. He pointed out that money cannot compensate for these losses, but he hopes that a natural disaster will be declared and some help will still arrive.
The Mimica winery is the most important in this part of Dalmatia. Over the past decades, they have saved numerous indigenous varieties from oblivion. The beautiful story of the creation of the winery, which was nicknamed the House of a Happy Man, was written by our Željko Garmaz back in 2018.
