Some wines were decent, some bad, but visitors seem to be more interested in the brand than what's in the bottle, wine critic Eric Asimov wrote in the New York Times after visiting the Trump Winery in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA. US President Donald Trump bought Kluge Estate Winery and Vineyard in 2011. He renamed it, and a year later his son Eric became the official owner. It has 92 hectares of vineyards, a cellar where they produce about 400,000 bottles of different wines a year, a hotel with 45 rooms and a hall for weddings and business and other gatherings.

The current US president said, winning his first term in 2016, that he has the largest winery on the east coast of the United States of America. It turned out that this is not true: it is the largest one only in the state of Virginia. In other states of the east coast, in terms of wine production, Williams and Chateau Morisette wineries are stronger with about 700,000 bottles per year. Still, Trump has the most vineyards there.

The wine selection is substantial, however. They produce five sparkling wines, four white wines, a rosé, four reds, and an ice wine. The Sparkling Reserve 2014 earned 97 points and the title of best in the brut sparkling wine category at the 2020 San Francisco International Wine Competition. They also produce apple cider vinegar.
