Level 1 Sommelier Course
For those who are just beginning to explore wine, this qualification (education/course) provides a practical introduction to the world of wine and sommellerie. You will learn how to properly serve wine, explore the main wine types and styles through organoleptic analysis (sight, smell, and taste), and develop basic skills for accurately describing wine as well as fundamental food and wine pairing principles. Upon successful completion, you will receive an official HSK certificate for the Level 1 Sommelier Course.
What will I learn?
- How to properly serve wine
- How to describe wine using ASI terminology
- Main wine types and styles
- The most important Croatian grape varieties
- Basic characteristics of beer, coffee, tea, and water
- Basic principles of food and wine pairing
Course organization
The course lasts 40 hours, delivered through:
- 30% online learning
- 70% onsite training in various locations across Croatia
Assessment
Assessment is conducted through a written exam consisting of 40 multiple-choice and open-ended questions.
This qualification is regulated by the Education Committee of HSK.
Entry requirements
There are no special entry requirements for the course.
Participants must be of legal age to take part in wine tastings.
Course fee
€500 + VAT
The fee includes HSK membership for the current year, the Guide for Sommeliers book, workbook, lectures, guided tastings, three lunches during the course, two exam attempts, and an official certificate upon successful completion of the Level 1 Sommelier Course.
